History of Kurdistan Regional Water Company

 

 Prior to the establishment of the Ministry of Energy, in 1945, the West Independent Irrigation Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, formed the Sharbin Committees, responsible for monitoring, dividing, and distributing agricultural water in the west of the country and from its revenue (collection of water resources). The dredging of Anhar and other ancillary services was under way. During this time the municipalities were responsible for supplying and distributing drinking water to the provincial cities. After the establishment of the Ministry of Energy in 1347, independent irrigation firms in the Ministry of Energy merged and disclaimed responsibility for the Sharbin Delegations with the same status and under the supervision of the Water Department of the Ministry of Energy.

    West Regional Civil Company (PJC) according to its articles of association and description of its duties in the field of potable, agricultural and industrial water supply in Kurdistan, Ilam, Kermanshah, Hamadan, Lorestan and areas of West Azarbaijan province including Lake Urmia catchment, Mahabad dam administration, Bukan and water In Mahabad, Sarb started his life with important projects and established a headquarters in the Kurdistan province and the city of Sanandaj. In 1359 due to the specific political situation of the region and according to the decision of the Supreme Islamic Revolutionary Council the company was transferred from Kordestan to Kermanshah province and Kermanshah city and subsequently changed the title to Western Regional Water Company and assigned previous tasks related to West Azarbaijan province. Its responsibility has been relegated. According to the new approved water bodies of the five provinces of Kurdistan, Ilam, Kermanshah, Hamadan, Lorestan, they have been responsible for supplying and distributing drinking water, agricultural and industrial water.

    In 1992, following the approval of the establishment of water and wastewater companies in that part of the duties which included the operation and maintenance of drinking water facilities of cities and water supply networks in the province of Kurdistan, it was referred to as the Drinking Water Division of the province's water bodies. Distinguished and known as the Kurdistan Water and Wastewater Company.

    In 1995, according to the expansion of the field of activity and structure of the organization, while expanding its duties, the water affairs of the Kurdistan province were upgraded to the General Directorate.

    Due to the approval of the provincial water departments to be transformed into regional water companies, on 6/6/2006 Kurdistan Regional Water Corporation was formed and the Kurdistan Regional Water Administration was upgraded to Kurdistan Regional Water Corporation.
